Going lighter from black & color correction in Rishon LeZion

From black, red or a color that went wrong to a shade you like. Step by step, with a strand test and an honest plan: what can be done in one visit and what will take several.

A bob in a natural light-brown shade, seen from behind

Black and red are the most stubborn colors. Going lighter from them is a long process that takes many hours, sometimes almost the whole day. First I remove the dark artificial pigment with a series of acid color removers, and alkaline ones if your hair allows. Then I do a restorative treatment and several rounds of toning to reach the shade you want.

The result depends on which dye you’ve used, whether there’s keratin on your hair and how firmly the pigment is set in it. That’s why I always do a strand test before we start: it shows how much your hair can take, and I choose the method and the formula. A natural shade or warm blonde is often possible in one visit. Ash blonde from black can’t be reached in one visit — we get there gradually.

The same goes for color correction: patches, yellow, orange, a harsh line at the roots, strands of different colors. I never judge cases like this from a single photo: first I look at what previous coloring has left in the hair, and only then suggest a plan. If the coloring could harm your hair, I’ll tell you honestly and may decline to do it.

My work

Photos are only cropped; the hair color is not retouched.

How it works

  1. Photos and color history

Send photos of your hair in daylight — front, lengths and roots — and a photo of the color you want. Be sure to tell me what you’ve colored it with: henna, black dye, box dye.

  2. Consultation and strand test

I invite you to the studio: I look at your hair in person and do a strand test. From the result, I tell you what color is realistic right now, how many stages it will take and how long.

  3. Removing the pigment

A series of acid color removers, alkaline ones if needed, with a restorative treatment. I choose the formulas for your hair and check its condition at every stage.

  4. Toning and the next step

I tone to the shade we chose and style your hair. Three weeks after going lighter from black you need a second toning: it builds up the color and gets rid of the orange that can appear after going lighter.

What affects the time and price

  • What dye you’ve used and for how long: permanent home dyes are harder to remove.
  • Whether there’s keratin on your hair.
  • The length, thickness and condition of your hair — the strand test shows how much it can take.
  • The result you want: your natural shade, warm blonde or a technique such as highlights.
  • How many stages it takes. The price of each one already includes the dye, care and a blow-dry.

Aftercare and touch-ups

After going lighter from dark, your hair needs gentle care at home: a sulfate-free shampoo, lipid masks sealed with a conditioner, a leave-in cream or fluid, and heat protection even if you don’t use a blow-dryer. It’s best to avoid flat irons and curling irons for this period.

A slight orange tint after going lighter from black is normal. Come back in three weeks for a second toning.

Don’t color your hair yourself between stages: the dye blocks the way to a lighter color again, and the next stage gets harder.

Questions

Can I go lighter from black in one visit?

Often, yes — if your goal is a natural shade or warm blonde. Going from black to ash blonde isn’t possible in one visit. How many stages it takes depends on your coloring history, your hair’s condition and the strand test.

Why is my hair orange after going lighter from black?

That’s normal: as the dark pigment comes out, hair passes through an orange, coppery stage. Toning takes it out, and three weeks later you need a second toning to build up the color.

How long does going lighter from dark take?

It takes many hours, sometimes almost the whole day: color removers, treatments, toning. I’ll be more precise after the strand test. It’s best not to plan anything else that day.

Can you fix color that went wrong?

Yes, it’s a common request: patches, yellow, orange, a harsh line at the roots. First I look at your hair and what previous coloring has left in it, do a strand test, and only then suggest a plan. Sometimes a correction takes more than one visit.

Will it ruin my hair?

I work with professional products and low-percentage developer, and I check your hair’s condition at every stage. But if I see that the coloring could do harm, I’ll tell you honestly and suggest another way — or not take it on.

How much does going lighter from black cost?

It’s complex, lengthy coloring: the price depends on length, thickness, the dye on your hair and the number of stages. I’ll give you an idea of the price after the photos and the strand test. The price includes the dye, treatments and a blow-dry.
